South Australia fuel price reporting trial

FuelPrice Australia has signed up as a data publisher to participate in South Australia’s first fuel price reporting trial!

Our application has been approved! We’ve been given the API documentation and access to a staging envronment.

The SA API documentation very closely matches matches QLD’s API documentation with the addition of some new Station endpoints:

  • Google Place ID (GooglePlaceID)
  • Daily opening hours (MO, MC, TO, TC: Monday Open, Monday Close, Tuesday Open, Tuesday Close, and so on…)

We’ll be playing with the staging environment this coming week to see what’s possible before South Australia’s Consumer and Business Services flicks the switch on March 19!

  1. Looking at LPG wholesale prices, they have been going down over the last 3 years (gate price now AUD 0.65, plus Government AUD 0.165 excise), but fuel resellers keep putting the price up!

It was supposed to be the alternative to petrol. I see one issue lately has arisen is that the testing companies charge $15,000 to do the 10-year tank test! A few $1,000 would cover this test. They would disagree of course. LNG pipes use the same equipment and is an ongoing process on the pipelines.

The benchmark for the cost of Australian LPG is supposed to be the Saudi Aramco Contract Price, also commonly called the Saudi Contract price. That is currently at AUD 0.442 (20-01-2025). Not the AUD 0.65 gate price!

A bit of profiteering being made by the company and retailers, even if you take out some overhead costs.
